At the end of November the Professionals Board attended a surprise event for Brian MacPherson, Managing Director of MacPherson Real Estate Ltd in Invercargill. Brian has decided to retire from real estate and leave his business in the capable hands of his successors.
Brian’s farewell was an evening where a number of former and current Professionals members were able to fondly remember Brian’s immense contribution to the Group and to the real estate industry, including Chairmanship of our Board and also President of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.
An interesting observation by a number of speakers was how difficult it was to “dig up some dirt” on Brian. He is a gentleman of the highest order, with integrity and professionalism a mark of the man.
For background, Brian commenced as a real estate salesperson in the late 1960s and was one of the top sales performers in the late 1960s through to early 1974. In 1974 he went into partnership with John King for 4 years, expanding the business through to 1982 at which time he became a founding member of the Professionals group in New Zealand. Bob Fisken, another founding member of Professionals, was also in attendance at Brian’s farewell.
Brian has noted in the past that the main reason for joining was he thought his previous franchise costs were too high. With a 30 year relationship, he reflects the more equitable fee structure is still an important aspect, although there is a lot more that has kept him committed to the Group. Being associated with Professionals image and integrity is high on his list and he values his name being linked to a strong and respected brand and most importantly the co-operative spirit of members to offer advice and help and excellent camaraderie.
